Meteors are always falling to Earth.

But there are several meteor showers a year, which make seeing one more likely.

One of the best places to see a meteor shower is in a dark sky area.

Simply put, no light pollution from towns or roads.

One of the best places to see the next big shower is Wyoming.

The annual Perseid Meteor Shower will send streeks across the Wyoming skies over the weekend, peaking August 11 to 13.

Do find the best "dark sky" you can use this link. It's for the Dark Sky Finder website. There are also dark sky apps.

There are very few places left to find dark skies.

Wyoming has a few of those places.

Wyoming's higher elevation and dry climate also make it easier to see what is up in the night sky.

The map below is from Dark Sky Finder.

You can see Cody, top left.

Cheyenne, bottom right.

I bet you can spot Casper and Gillette.

Notice the darkest spots.

That's where you want to go to get the best view of the stars at night.

This annual shower comes from a dust train from the Swift-Tuttle comet.

If you are in a dark sky area the only thing that might obstruct your view will be a slight sliver of the moon.

Best viewing times will be after midnight and before 4 a.m. on Aug. 13.

A couple of years ago I was at a campsite, in a dark sky area, laying atop a picnic table, looking up.

The number of stars I saw blew me away.

I saw many shooting stars, easily.
