When buying a vehicle, the first question that must be asked is: what's the mission? You wouldn't take a sports car up a two-rut mountain road.

The most popular vehicle in Wyoming is one that suits the mission for most people in the Cowboy State.

Despite what has become its outrageously high price, the Ford F-150 is still the most popular vehicle in Wyoming. They used to be more affordable and practical.

It makes sense that pickup trucks and rugged SUVs dominate the roads in Wyoming due to the snowy mountain weather, unpaved rural roads, and long driving distances. Buyers across the state favor high ground clearance, four-wheel drive (4WD), and strong towing capacity.

The second most popular vehicle driven in Wyoming is the Ram 1500.
Next is the Toyota Tacoma.

After that, just run the list of SUVs and vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler.

Toyota RAV4 and the Ford Explorer rank among the most popular non-truck passenger vehicles and SUVs in Wyoming. Because pickup trucks dominate the state, traditional sedans make up a very small percentage of vehicle sales, with buyers favoring capable all-wheel-drive SUVs and crossovers instead.

Let's turn back the clock and look at what folks in Wyoming used to drive. It wasn't much different. Ford Deluxe and the rugged Chevrolet Advance-Design 3100 pickup truck were among the most popular and relied-upon vehicles to drive across Wyoming.

You might think that if you head down to Colorado, you would see a different kind of vehicle as the most popular. But the Ford F-150 is also the most popular ride, even down there.
