The 2025 Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class ‘A’ State Tournament is in Sheridan from July 24-28. It is an eight-team, modified, double-elimination bracket at Ernie Rotellini Field at Thorne-Rider Stadium in Sheridan. The Powell Pioneers are the two-time defending Class A State Champions. The field includes six teams that were part of last year’s state tourney. The two new ones are Riverton and Wheatland.

Thursday, July 24:

Final Score: (W2) Powell Pioneers 8 (E3) Torrington Tigers 4 - The Pioneers broke it open with 6 runs in the 5th inning. Bieber had a 2-run single, and Powell capitalized on 5 errors.

Final Score: (W3) Lovell Mustangs 10 (E2) Wheatland Lobos 8 - Lovell rallied from a 7-0 deficit, tied it in the 5th with 6 runs, and won it with 2 runs in the top of the 7th. Wassmer led the Mustangs with 2 hits (3B) & 2 RBIs. Jackson hit a solo HR. Lovell took advantage of 10 walks.

Final Score: (W4) Riverton Raiders 8 (E1) Casper Drillers 5 - Riverton rallied from a 4-0 deficit and took the lead with 8 runs in the 4th inning. 5 RBI base hits and 2 bases-loaded walks led to the big inning. Baker had 3 hits & 2 RBIs for the Raiders. Atnip hit a 3-run HR for Casper.

Final Score: (W1) Cody Cubs 7 (E4) Sheridan Jets 4 - Cody took a 2-0 lead, then trailed 3-2, but responded with 2 in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd and held off the Jets. M. Bailey had 1 hit & 2 RBIs for the Cubs, who also took advantage of 8 walks and 2 errors.

Opening ceremonies at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, July 25:

Final Score: Torrington Tigers 8 Casper Drillers 2 - Casper is eliminated - The Tigers took the lead with 2 runs in the 3rd and added 6 more over their last 3 at-bats. Kramer led Torrington with 2 hits (3B), 3 RBIs, & 3 stolen bases. Hibben added a 2-run single and got the win on the mound. The Tigers took advantage of 5 errors.

Final Score: Wheatland Lobos 4 Sheridan Jets 2 - Sheridan is eliminated - Wheatland scored 2 runs in the 5th that proved to be the difference. The Lobos scored on a passed ball and an RBI double by Steinsiek. Schaffner had 3 hits & 3 runs scored for Wheatland. Kintzi had 1 hit, 1 RBI, scored 1 run, and stole 1 base.

Final Score: Powell Pioneers 3 Riverton Raiders 1 - Powell scored 2 in the 4th & 1 more in the 5th, which was enough to slip past Riverton. Diaz had the go-ahead RBI single among 2 hits & 1 RBI. He has got the win on the mound with 6.1 innings pitched and 12 strikeouts.

Final Score: Lovell Mustangs 9 Cody Cubs 6 - Lovell jumped out to a 5-2 lead. The Mustangs scored in all but one inning. Jackson hit 2 home runs as part of 3 hits & 3 RBIs. Hedges added 3 hits & 1 RBI, and Owens contributed 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Phillips had 2 doubles & 3 RBIs.

Final Score: Wheatland Lobos 6 Riverton Raiders 5 - Riverton is eliminated - The Lobos jumped out to a 3-0 lead, then trailed 5-4, but Wheatland scored 2 in the 6th inning on an RBI single and an error. Bohlander had 2 hits & 2 RBIs, and Schaffner added 2 hits & 1 RBI for the Lobos. R. Cox had 2 hits & 1 RBI for Riverton.

Final Score: Cody Cubs 4 Torrington Tigers 1 - Torrington is eliminated - Cody led 4-0 after 4 innings and held on. Duke allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits with 5 Ks. Bailey and Phillips had 2 hits & 1 RBI each.

Final Score: Lovell Mustangs 2 Powell Pioneers 1 - 8 inns. - Wassmer had the go-ahead, game-winning RBI single in the top of the 8th for Lovell. Powell had the bases loaded in the 8th, but a groundout ended the game. Hedges had 2 hits & 1 RBI for Lovell.

Sunday, July 27:

Final Score: Wheatland Lobos 4 Powell Pioneers 0 - Powell is eliminated - Collar tossed a 2-hit shutout over 7 innings with 12 strikeouts. F. Peralta hit a solo HR in the 1st. Lind added a 2-run single in the 7th when Wheatland scored 3 more insurance runs.

Final Score: Cody Cubs 9 Lovell Mustangs 2 - Cody stays alive. They jumped out to a 5-0 lead through 2 innings and pulled away with 4 more runs in the 4th and 5th. Machen allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on 7 hits in a complete game victory. Jarrett led the Cubs with 3 hits (2B), 1 RBI, & 2 runs scored. M. Bailey added 2 hits, 1 RBI, & 2 runs scored. Jackson had 1 hit & 1 RBI for Lovell.

Monday, July 28:

Final Score: Cody Cubs 9 Wheatland Lobos 2 - Wheatland is eliminated - Cody took the lead with 2 runs in the 3rd and eventually built a 6-0 lead, then added 3 more in the 6th. Duke had 2 hits & 1 RBI, while Phillips and Johnston added 2 RBIs each for the Cubs. Raser had an RBI triple for the Lobos

State Championship Game Final Score: Lovell Mustangs 5 Cody Cubs 1 - Lovell rallied from an early 1-0 deficit. They took the lead with 2 runs in the 3rd and added 3 more in the 5th. Wassmer has the go-ahead RBI single in the 3rd. Hedges added a 2-run single in the 5th. Files allowed 1 run on 5 hits over the complete game victory. He had 6 Ks and 1 walk. Jarrett had 2 hits & 1 run scored for Cody. This is the 1st Single-A State Championship in Lovell program history.

 

The stage is set to see who advances to this year’s Northwest Class A Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Burley, ID, Aug. 7-11, 2025. Wyoming’s state champion will be the lone representative at the tournament.

Wyoming will host the NWCART in 2026 in Casper at Mike Lansing Field.
