Summer Sipping Just Got Better With Wyoming Whiskey
Because of a rough first batch, there have been many opinions of Wyoming's first legal distillery, Wyoming Whiskey. The folks at the distillery understand that batch wasn't the best, but if you haven't tried the whiskey since, you're missing out.
It's one of my favorite whiskeys. You'd think they paid me to talk about how much I like it, but they don't; I REALLY enjoy it.
First impressions are important, but everyone deserves a second chance. If you were one to try the first round years ago, this summer, you should give Wyoming Whiskey a second chance. They just released a second bottling of the stand-out Outryder Straight American Whiskey, exclusively in the Cowboy State.
2024 Outryder Straight American Whiskey tasting notes:
- Nose: Baked orchard fruit with cinnamon and chocolate hazelnut
- Palate: Maple syrup with candied walnuts and orange bitters
- Finish: Lingering chocolate and espresso bean
Making whiskey is an art form that I can truly support, and Wyoming Whiskey has been working hard for over a decade to create great Wyoming-based art. This year's release of Outryder is an excellent example of that.
According to Wyoming Whiskey Co-Founder David DeFazio,
Our 2024 edition of Outryder is the first of its kind. It blends a traditional high-rye bourbon with a true rye whiskey. All of the barrels selected for this release were filled in early 2017 and have matured through the heat of seven summer seasons in our warehouses.
As is true for all of our batched products, we selected barrels for their excellence and their ‘Outryder’ flavor profile; they were not selected according to a set metric. This batch has a 2.5 ratio of bourbon to rye barrels and offers notes of cinnamon, chocolate hazelnut and candied walnuts, among other rich flavors. We can’t wait for people to taste the 2024 batch
Look for Outryder all over Wyoming, or go to Kirby and get it from the source. The tasting room is fantastic, and the knowledgeable staff will take care of you. I know that I'll be making the trip soon.
