It's been a busy summer at the YMCA of Natrona County, and as they're preparing for a busy school year, they'll be closing for a good fall cleaning.

Beginning August 24, the pool will close. Then, on August 28, the facility will be closed to members and for childcare.

Things must be tidy, clean, and ready for the next round of activities for the safety of all the members. So, as families are easing back into school, school activities, and the first week struggles, the Y will use that time to their advantage and get things cleaned.

If you'd like to volunteer during the closed period, you can reach out to Darlene.

Another cool thing happening during the closing is the puppy plunge on August 25. Beginning at 3:15, there will be three sessions available for you to take your pup to the Y and let them splash and play in the de-chlorinated pool.

Register your dog now; spots will fill up quickly. The cost is $5 per dog.

If you're interested in taking your dog, there are a couple of guidelines you'll need to be aware of.

  • One pup per adult (18+)
  • Have proof of rabies vaccination
  • Lifeguards will be on duty to keep an eye on your dogs; you aren't allowed in the water with them.
  • Bring your dog's favorite splash toy, or stick to chase in the water.
  • Aggressive dogs or owners will be asked to leave.
  • Pup cups are available as a treat once their splash session is completed.
