Casper Airport Stays Strong Amid National Shutdown Concerns
Having an airport like the Casper Natrona County International Airport is incredible, not just for the Casper area, but the CNCIA impacts folks from around the state. With the government on a temporary shutdown (let's hope), some people may be worried about the status of the airport.

Three central federal departments are present at the Casper airport.
- Federal Aviation Administration - FAA - Oversees air traffic, certification, and safety regulations.
- Transportation Security Administration - TSA - The airport's security force is responsible for all aspects of security, including screening passengers and their luggage.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection - Casper is the only port that is designated as a port of entry in the state. In other words, there is a U.S. Customs office here that handles all international clearances for airplanes and cargo.

Thankfully, at this point in the shutdown, CNCIA is fully operational. However, some airports around the country are experiencing issues that are impacting travel.

These are a few of the ways travel is being impacted.
- Many airports, including major hubs like Denver, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C., are experiencing flight delays due to staff shortages.
- The FAA has implemented "flow control programs" that reduce the rate of flights taking off or landing, which may cause delays.
- Some federal airport staff are being required to work without pay, which in turn is causing a higher number of employees to call in sick.
- There have been many staff who have been furloughed, for instance, aircraft certification specialists, engineers, and inspectors.
If you're flying out of Casper, you should check with the airline to ensure you have up-to-date information concerning your flight.
