Update: Oregon trail fire approximately 1543 acres. Roughly 18 miles N off the Oregon Trail rd from Hwy 220, near the Prospect Hill Interpretive Site. Smoke column was visible from numerous directions in Natrona County. Remote area, minimal values at risk at this time, currently no threat to infrastructure or the public. Please avoid area smoke may be visible for a few days.

The Natrona County Fire District says the fire began on Saturday, July 13, around 8:30 p.m. and will likely continue for multiple days so that smoke will be visible around Casper.

Reduce your smoke exposure by doing the following.

  • Stay inside with doors and windows closed.
  • Use high-efficiency filters on your air conditioner.
  • Take it easy during high-smoke times.
  • Know the air quality.
  • Have enough food and medicines to reduce the number of times you'll need to leave your home during smoky times.
  • Use the air conditioning in your car and avoid rolling the windows down.
  • Don't rely on dust masks or bandanas for smoke protection. Use a N95 respirator to reduce smoke exposure.
