Casper police are investigating what an officer calls a suspicious death in a house in the 700 block of East Third Street on Tuesday.

Last night they took to Facebook to ask the public to avoid the area.

"We got a report of a deceased male," Sgt. Jeff Bullard said Tuesday night. "The circumstances of that passing are rather suspicious and we're actively investigating what happened."

He admitted "suspicious" is a broad term and urged people to not read anything more into that.

Only one person is deceased, Bullard said, adding he did not know how long the body had been there.

There is no no active threat to the community, and it is an isolated incident, he added.

Bullard said he didn't know when the call came in, but a neighbor who declined to be identified said law enforcement began arriving about 5 p.m.

The neighbor also said two men lived in the house that is under investigation, but Bullard could not confirm that.

Police have no persons of interest in this case so far, he said.

The neighborhood is highly populated, officers are interviewing everyone they can, and they are being very methodical on this moving forward, Bullard said.

"The circumstances are alarming enough just from the initial outset that we slowed way down; we're working our way toward finding those answers," he said.

The first officers on the scene took the right steps to lock down the house and notify  detectives, he said.

Officers were executing a search warrant on the property Tuesday night, he said.

"It may turn out being totally benign, but as it is right now we've got to do things right take the right steps from the outset," he said. "Even if it turns out to be nothing, they did it in the right way."

A representative from the Natrona County District Attorney's Office was on the scene, just as a consultation and to guide police through the legal issues, Bullard said.

The Natrona County Coroner has been notified and will come to retrieve the body after the police complete their investigation of the scene. "Obviously they'll be a big part of that investigation, too, once the body is released to them."

Bullard encouraged anybody who knows anything that happened in the last four or five days in the area to notify the police.
