It may come as no surprise that our State government is more dependent on federal funding than individuals living in the state. As of recently, we have seen some large budget cuts for Game and Fish, and in Public Education.

WalletHub did a study, 2017's Most & Least Federally Dependent States, to see if low tax rates also correlated with large government subsidies. They wanted to know if the support from the U.S. helped lower taxes. It painted a different picture than just looking at tax rates (which Wyoming ranked the 9th best in the nation.)

Compared to the rest of the United States, Wyoming's State government ranked as the 12th most dependent on federal dollars. As for the individuals in Wyoming, they were ranked smack-dab in the middle at 26th most dependent. Overall, Wyoming ranked 19th most attached to the government's money.
