Free Beer & Hot Wings: NBA Bans L.A. Clippers Owner Donald Sterling for Life [Video]
The announcement came down this week from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver: Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned for life from all NBA activities and fined $2.5 million, which will be donated to organizations dedicated to anti-discrimination and tolerance efforts.
The announcement Tuesday was all in response to the tapes that were released over the weekend containing a conversation between Sterling and his girlfriend, in which Sterling made numerous racist remarks towards African-American players.
Silver said:
We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling's views. They simply have no place in the NBA."
After a three-day investigation by the NBA, it was confirmed that it was indeed Sterling’s voice on the tapes.
So, he’s out. And the rest of the league seems to be better because of it as many of its players took to Twitter to voice their praise for first-year commissioner Silver.
Sterling’s banishment and fine are the biggest punishment ever issued by the league. Silver also said that he will also try to force Sterling to sell the Clippers.
Does the punishment fit the crime?
