Former University of Wyoming All-American thrower Mason Finley is headed to Rio de Janeiro after winning the discus at the U.S. Olympic Trials last Friday.

Finley uncorked a toss of 208 feet-one inch or 63.42 meters on his second attempt for victory. In fact, he had the top four throws during the finals Friday in Eugene, OR.

Joining him on the Olympic team are Travis Bailey and Andrew Evans, who finished second and third, respectively.

Finley becomes the first former UW student-athlete to make the Olympics since former swimmer Scott Usher competed in the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, Greece.

In the last couple of years, Finley finished sixth at the U.S. Championships in the discus in 2015. That was after a Mountain West title and an All-American finish at the NCAA Championships in 2014.
