With pop acts seemingly getting all the attention these days, seeing Foo Fighters representing rock in the 2012 Grammy Awards is a breath of fresh air for fans. The band is nominated in multiple categories for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, thanks to their latest album ‘Wasting Light,’ which is up for the prestigious Album of the Year trophy.

Foo Fighters are also contenders for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for their single ‘Walk.’ Their new disc ‘Wasting Light’ is also up for Best Rock Album alongside Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘I’m With You’ and other contenders.

‘Wasting Light’ is the band’s seventh album, and their first since 2007′s ‘Echoes. Silence, Patience & Grace.’ Butch Vig, who produced the album, is also nominated for his work on ‘Wasting Light.’ In addition, the Foos’ documentary ‘Back and Forth’ is nominated for ‘Best Long Form Music Video.’

Dave Grohl and the gang also join hard rock heavy hitters such as Dream Theater, Mastodon and Megadeth as a contender for ‘Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance.’
