Foo Fighters Play Last Show For a While in New York City’s Central Park

Fans on hand Saturday (Sept. 29) for the Global Citizens Festival in New York City’s Central Park likely caught the last Foo Fighters show for the foreseeable future, as frontman Dave Grohl told a crowd of 60,000 that he and his bandmates are planning an extended break.

“We’re not making a big deal out of this, but this is it,” Grohl told the masses assembled on the Great Lawn. “We don’t have any more shows after this. This is it. We don’t have any ones after this. This is the show where we play as many songs as we can in a short period of time because honestly, I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again, but this is the perfect place to do it right now tonight.”

Saturday’s show — organized by the Global Poverty Project, an organization dedicated to stamping out extreme poverty — also featured performances the Black Keys and Neil Young. At the end of the concert, Grohl, Keys frontman Dan Auerbach and openers Band of Horses and K’Naan joined Young for an all-star rendition of ‘Rockin’ in the Free World.’
