I got a call the other day informing me I will need to be present for an upcoming jury selection. Great.

I've had the pleasure of being selected for jury duty 4 times, and have actually sat in on a trial for a week and half. This is after I informed the judge and attorneys that I work in media, and know half of the police officers in Casper. I even tried to be racist by stating I hate white people. No luck there, either.

There are some very minor bonuses to serving on a jury. VERY minor...

1.) It's your civic duty!

When they send you a letter informing you your six month term is about to start, they are very adamant about how exciting this is, and how you should feel lucky. I had a dog named lucky once...he was hit by a car.

2.) You make $30 bucks a day!

This would be fantastic, if it was 1968. Most people spend that much in gas just getting to the courthouse. Which brings me to...

3.) They'll pay Your gas!

...If you live more than 5 miles away, which doesn't really affect anybody in Casper.

4.) You get free donuts!

This is actually pretty awesome. As a DJ, I tend to get extremely excited when free food is involved.

5.) You get to be frisked every day of the trial!

What's better than having a grown man fondle your goodies? I know people that pay good money for that sort of thing...
