The first early signing day for college football saw the Wyoming Cowboys sign 20 high school players Wednesday.

The class includes four three-star recruits from 247 Sports, the top ranked recruit from Wyoming, four of the top 20 recruits in Colorado and the first third generation recruit in Wyoming football history.

Head coach Craig Bohl credited his coaching staff for a job well done.

“I want to give credit where credit is due. Gordie Haug (Director of Recruiting) and our entire staff have done an amazing job of putting this class together.”

Bohl went on to say, “This was a new process for all coaching staffs across the country. We chose to pursue an ambitious recruiting plan to identify early those young men we felt best fit into our Wyoming recruiting profile. We worked extremely hard to build relationships with those young men and their families to the point where they wanted to commit to us now rather than later in the February signing process.”

The two in-state recruits are Sheridan’s Blayne Baker and Laramie’s Frank Crum. Both are offensive lineman. Baker was the No. 1 ranked recruit in the Cowboy state. Crum joins his father, Gary, and grandfather, Earl, as a Cowboy.

The list from Colorado includes linebacker Chad Muma, receiver Gunner Gentry (brother of former Cowboy player Tanner Gentry), defensive back Cameron Murray (cousin of current UW player Austin Conway) and offensive lineman Zach Watts.

Wyoming went heavy with nine players from California, including running back Jevon Bigelow from Fresno, QB Sean Chambers and corner Miles Williams.

The Cowboys also picked up the No. 17 recruit from Oregon in Reow Jackson, who is listed as an Athlete and could play one of a few positions. They also signed the No. 5 long snapper in Jesse Hooper from Draper, UT.

Overall eight players are offensive players, while 10 are on defense, with one “Athlete” and one special teams’ player. Besides California, Colorado and Wyoming, players came from Illinois (2), Oregon (1), Utah (1) and Wisconsin (1).

Four new signees, Charles Hicks (LB), Hooper (LS), Murray (DB) and Williams (DB) will enroll in January for the spring semester and go through spring practice in 2018.
