Councilwoman Robin Mundell announced she will be resigning from the Casper City Council because of her husband's health, she said during a news conference at City Hall on Monday.

She and her husband Rodney will relocate to Las Vegas, which has a warmer climate and a lower altitude than Casper, she said.

She won't set a specific date until she has an address in Las Vegas.

The Mundells made their decision Thursday and notified Mayor Charlie Powell on Friday, and notified the council by email, she said.

Mundell declined to comment on her resignation, saying it was a family matter.

Before her election to the council, she was the executive director of the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce from 2011 to 2013, and before that had worked for the city in its housing and community development departments.

She is the second council member to resign in four months. Craig Hedquist resigned in late July after a contentious tenure. Council replaced Hedquist with Scott Miller.

Mundell was elected in 2014 to represent Ward I, which includes Casper between Poplar Street on the west and Conwell Street on the east.

City Manager V.H. McDonald said after the news conference that council will begin to take applications for the position after Mundell sets a date for her resignation.
