When was the last time you used a penny? Used it for what it was made for, to spend money....NOT to scratch off a Lottery scratch game.

As for me, I do use pennies very seldom. Then again, I hardly ever use actual money. I was never a big fan, plus I'm cheap.

Then again, you better break out actual cash when you go to certain places here in Casper, like Bentz's Town Pump...that place is cash only!  Or what about when I get my hair cut? I better break out cash or check for that.

But pennies? Sometimes when I'm desperate I'll pay for things in pennies (McDonald's Dollar Menu).

In light of Canada doing away with their Penny, I wonder is Casper could survive penny-less?

Here's the cost breakdown I found from About.com:

Approximate Current Cost of Minting Various U.S. Coins

Penny - 1.26 cents

Nickel - 7.7 cents

Dime - 4 cents

Quarter - 10 cents

If that's true, then cutting off the penny really does make fiscal sense. And lets face it, the government can use all the help they can get. Plus, how crazy would it be if your grandkids played with pennies as if they were play money instead of collecting them in their piggy banks?

What do you think? Could Casper survive without pennies?
