City Closes One Recycling Depot, Opens Another
One of Casper's nine recycling depots will close next week, and a new depot will open next month, the city's solid waste manager said in a news release Tuesday.
The depot at Denis Drive will close Wednesday, Oct. 28, and the new one will open on Wyoming Boulevard near Fairside Road by Nov. 16, Cynthia Langston said.
“The (Denis Drive) depot is currently located on property owned by Ricor Properties, and they have been very generous in allowing us to have our recycling depot located there until we could arrange for a permanent location," Langston said.
The new depot will be on city-owned land with landscaping using native plants and trees that require limited irrigation, she said.
Last week, the depot in Huber Park at 3031 E. Fifth St., reopened after being closed for repairs and improvements including a litter fence around the area and refurbished bins, Langston said.
The other recycling depots in Casper are located at Rocky Mountain Discount Sports, South Mike Sedar Park by the playground, Paradise Valley pool, Meals on Wheels, the north Casper soccer fields in the east parking lot along K Street, the east-side Walmart, and at the Balefill.
All depots have self-serve bins for cardboard, white paper, newspaper, magazines, number one and number two plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass.
“All these commodities, with the exception of glass, are taken to Wyoming Recycling and sold for recycling, while the glass is crushed and reused at the solid waste facility,” Langston said.
