Chad Gray on Mudvayne: I Don’t Know If the Full Band Will Reunite
Hellyeah have enjoyed increasing success over the years, but since 2010, vocalist Chad Gray's other band Mudvayne have remained inactive. In a new interview with Songfacts, Gray took some time to address Mudvayne's future.
Doubt about the band's future likely increased last year when it was revealed that Hellyeah was parting ways with Greg Tribbett, the other Mudvayne member that also played in Hellyeah. Gray admits that has complicated matters moving forward.
He states, "I don't know if the full band will [ever reunite]. Who knows -- they might be putting something else together. We were talking for a while and that whole thing with Greg went down and everything kind of fell apart. Our relationship, which was the only truly solid relationship in the group, although Matt [McDonough] and I are still great, Ryan [Martinie] and I still briefly talk. I mean, the only way I personally would want to do Mudvayne is if everybody licked their wounds and got over it."
Gray says that there are a lot of things that tore Mudvayne apart, but does point a finger at the band's album sales in particular. He stated, "Maybe Mudvayne was the martyr for people that stopped supporting music. You sell 159,000 records the first week, and then the next record is like, 'Whatever, f--- it.' Maybe it's a subliminal message if you don't support things. Mudvayne's probably bigger now than it ever was. So people want what they can't have."
So while Mudvayne's future remains in doubt, Gray is going strong with Hellyeah. The band has been supporting their Blood for Blood album over the past year and show no signs of slowing down. See their current tour dates here.
