Casper police officers on Monday arrested a mother and her son for allegedly selling psilocybin mushrooms.

Roanna M. Key, 59, and Spencer Houghton Clifford, 29, were each booked into jail on recommended charges of possession with intent to deliver, possession of psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana possession.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation agents assisted Casper police officers with the search of a home in the 2000 Block of S. Coffman Ave. at roughly 2:30 p.m. The officers had a signed search warrant regarding possession and distribution of psilocybin mushrooms, a psychedelic drug.

Clifford allegedly admitted to the officers that he and his mother sold the "shrooms" in order to make extra money. He claimed that his mother, Key, would travel to Denver to purchase the mushrooms.

They would sell the mushrooms an eighth of an ounce at a time, charging $35.

Clifford also told officers they would find marijuana in the home, which he used due to his seizures.

When Key returned home, she provided officers with the combination to the safe in her spare bedroom. That safe contained 19 half-sized sandwich bags, all of which contained psilocybin mushrooms. The total weight of those mushrooms was just under three ounces.

Also inside the safe, officers found 30 factory-sealed containers of THC wax along with a copy of Key's social security card.

In searching the home, officers allegedly found a .380-caliber handgun in Key's front bedroom, a digital scale, suspected marijuana paraphernalia in Clifford's bedroom and two hydrocodone pills.

Key said she did not have the combination for another safe, which she told officers belonged to her ex-husband and contained his firearms. With assistance from firefighters, officers opened the safe and found three .22-caliber handguns as well as one .22-caliber rifle.

The five firearms were logged for safekeeping at the police department.
