A Casper man is facing five felony charges for the thefts and burglaries of several vehicles over the course of a few days.

Casper police arrested Branden Robinson, 23, at noon Wednesday on two counts of vehicle theft, three counts of vehicle burglary, one count of residential burglary and two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.

According to an arrest affidavit, events in the case began three days prior when a Casper detective was called to investigate a recovered stolen van. Robinson was the driver.

Three days before that, a Chevy pickup truck was reported stolen.

During an interview with a Casper detective, Robinson said he found the van in an apartment complex parking lot with the keys still in the ignition when he took it. He said planned to drive the vehicle around town before selling it to get whatever money he could to buy drugs, clothes or possibly a ticket to the east coast to visit a relative.

Three days before that, Robinson told detectives, he stole a white Chevrolet pickup from an apartment complex in east Casper. Robinson said he intended to drive the pickup for a bit and sell it for whatever he could get out of it.

In the early morning hours of May 8, Robinson was driving the pickup when he saw an open garage door in an apartment complex. As he pulled into the garage, he crashed the pickup, leaving debris on the ground.

Robinson told police he took a checkbook and passport from the pickup with the intent of using them to make money any way he could. However, he said he did not write or cash any of the stolen checks.

After crashing the pickup, Robinson attempted to steal another Camaro parked nearby. He opened the Camaro's door, sat inside, smoked a cigarette and attempted, unsuccessfully, to use a random key to start the vehicle.

Robinson left a bag of unused syringes in the vehicle but took a cell phone and iPad.

He became confused and found an open garage door in the area of 13th Street and Lincoln. He entered a vehicle and took a necklace from it.

When Robinson was arrested, police found methamphetamine and marijuana pipes on his person. He also told police that he is a habitual user of methamphetamine with his last use coming two days prior.

He is expected to appear in Natrona County Circuit Court Thursday afternoon.
