Casper Agencies Set Date For Sexual Assault Forum
The Casper Police Department and other organizations have rescheduled a public forum on sexual assault that was canceled last month.
The sexual assault panel discussion will be held at Durham Hall at Casper College at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6, , according to a news release from police detective John Hatcher.
Dr. Lesley Travers, Dean of the School of Business and Industry at Casper College, will moderate the panel about the legal, investigative, prosecutorial, victim service issues, and challenges about sexual assault.
Panel members will include the Natrona County District Attorney, the Casper Chief of Police, police department investigations and victim services personnel, and leaders from the Self Help Center, the Children's Advocacy Project, and the Wyoming Medical Center's sexual assault nurse examiner.
The City of Casper and the police department have received criticisms in recent months about the way sexual assault cases are handled. Casper City Council, in response to residents' complaints, last week authorized spending $53,550 for the Center for Public Safety Management to do an independent review of department operations, resources and interaction with the community.
A second panel discussion on this topic will be held at Durham Hall on May 18.
