New Bon Scott Biography ‘The Last Highway’ Announced for Fall 2017
The incredible life and untimely death of AC/DC singer Bon Scott is being revisited in the new biography Bon: The Last Highway: The Untold Story of Bon Scott and AC/DC's Back in Black, scheduled for publication in late 2017.
The book comes courtesy of author Jesse Fink, whose work may be familiar to fans of the band through his 2015 release The Youngs: The Brothers Who Built AC/DC. Calling it "a passion project," Fink promises Last Highway is "the biggest book I've ever written," and hints that it'll focus on "the story of Bon's years in America, 1977-79, and his mysterious death in England in 1980."
Referring to Scott's death as "the Da Vinci Code of rock," the press release announcing The Last Highway vows to separate fact from myth in the singer's growing legacy, and pinpoints the heart of Fink's book as the story of the "special — and unlikely — friendship between an Australian rock star and an alcoholic Texan troublemaker." Readers can expect a story that sprawls from Austin in 1977 through Scott's 1980 death in London, a time period that saw AC/DC's commercial fortunes rise even as they dealt with behind-the-scenes strain.
In addition to the background information Fink dug into while writing The Youngs, the new book benefits from what the press release lauds as "unprecedented access" — not only to people from Scott's personal life, but "newly unearthed documents" as well as "a trove of never-before-seen photos" culminating in "startling new information about Bon's last hours to solve the mystery of how he died."
Bon: The Last Highway: The Untold Story of Bon Scott and AC/DC's Back in Black is scheduled for a U.S. release on Nov. 7, and is available to pre-order now.
