Beginning in 2013, the Austin City Limits Festival will take place over two weekends. A vote by the Austin City Council will allow C3 Presents, who also organize Lollapalooza, to expand the festival, which has been held in Austin’s Zilker Park since 2002.

As Austin’s KUT is reporting, City Manager Marc Ott is encouraged “to negotiate and execute an agreement with C3 Presents.” There had been some concerns from council members whether the expansion would conflict with existing events, but the resolution passed with a unanimous vote.

This year’s festival, which will take place Oct. 12-14, will be headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young and Crazy Horse and the Black Keys. Other major acts on the bill include Jack White, Florence + the Machine, the Avett Brothers and Iggy and the Stooges.

The decision seems to be an opportunity for C3 Presents to compete with Coachella, which had a similar expansion this year to great success.
