The National Weather Service is warning of a foot or more of expected snow accumulation in mountainous areas of Wyoming through Tuesday evening.

Six to 12 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts up to 16 inches, is expected in the Wind River Mountains before 6 p.m., according to a winter storm warning updated early Tuesday morning. An additional one to two inches is expected over South Pass.

Similar amounts are expected over the western and southeastern Bighorn Mountains, with winds gusting up to 35 mph. The NWS warns that travel along Highway 16 over Powder River Pass could be very difficult.

In southeastern Wyoming, heavy snow is expected in the Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges in south-central Wyoming. The communities of Centennial and Albany could get up to a foot of snow.

The Absaroka Mountains in Wyoming could see moderate to heavy snow, with five to 10 inches of accumulation and locally higher amounts up to 16 inches expected.

Meanwhile, much of Sheridan County is under a flood warning. A flood warning is also posted for part of southern Johnson County.

A flash flood watch is in effect for much of eastern and parts of Central Wyoming, including Buffalo, Casper, Douglas and Gillette. Casper could see three-quarters of one inch to an inch of rainfall Tuesday.
