A man has emerged a hero after he stepped in when an old woman chastised a youngster for selling candy.

In a video that has gone viral, the man shut down the woman, who demanded the child show a permit giving permission to sell the candy, by buying all the treats. The incident took place outside of a Target in Rowland Heights, Calif.

Andy Lizarraga shot the video and caught Jay Lopez as he reprimanded the woman and announced he would buy all the candy. Lopez said the woman had the child (reports specify the child was a girl, while the Facebook post indicates boy) teetering on the brink:

She continued to yell at her and scream at her and tell her if she didn’t have a permit, that she was going to go to jail, that sheriffs were on their way. When I walked up, she was crying hysterically."

Lopez made good on his promise and bought $80 worth of candy, which he gave out to strangers. It's unclear why the child was selling the candy.

“Mind your own business," Lopez says of the incident. "Take care of yourself and your family and everything will come together for you."
