The metal icons closed the two-day gaming convention at the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday night, which celebrated Blizzard Entertainment’s games, including 'Warcraft,' 'Diablo' and 'Starcraft.'
Metallica played a predominately vintage set with 2008’s ‘Cyanide’ being the newest track in the arsenal. The band kicked off the show with a raucous version of ‘Hit the Lights,’ before launching into ‘Master of Puppets.’ They kept it old school by following with ‘Ride the Lightning,’ ‘Harvester of Sorrow,’ ‘Fade to Black,’ before playing ‘Fuel' and ‘Sad But True.’ They closed out the show with ‘One,’ ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls,’ Creeping Death’ and ‘Enter Sandman.’
Drummer Lars Ulrich was interviewed before the show, and he said the band’s plan for the show was to play their “toe tapping favorites” and to “hit ‘em hard.” He also discussed his three kids’ obsession with video games, the Blu-Ray re-release of ‘Some Kind of Monster,’ which Lars called ‘a significant part of our heritage,” and a lot more. Watch the interview below.
Metallica have a busy couple of weeks ahead. The band will perform at the 'Concert For Valor' tomorrow (Nov. 11) along with Dave Grohl, Bruce Spingsteen and more. Next week they will perform every night on ‘The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson.’
Metallica recently asked for their fans to contribute to the deluxe reissues of ‘Kill ‘Em All’ and ‘Ride The Lightning.’
The band is also working on new music for their first new album since 2008’s ‘Death Magnetic.’
