Third Man Books to Release Collection of Poetry, ‘The Truth Is We Are Perfect’
Last year, Third Man Records expanded their operations into the print world with the advent of the aptly titled Third Man Books. With their first release, Language Lessons: Volume I, Jack White's company issued a timeless anthology of poetry, prose and music created by some of the most talented artists in the Nashville area.
Today (Feb. 12), Third Man Books has announced their next release -- and first-ever full-length collection of only poetry -- The Truth Is We Are Perfect. The book is packed with poems written by Janaka Stucky, a two-time National Haiku Champion and 2010's "Best Poet" in Boston.
In support of The Truth Is We Are Perfect, Stucky will hit the road for an extensive 30-city tour (dates to be released soon), including stops at the Mission Creek Festival in Iowa City and the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
Chet Weise, editor of Third Man Books, calls Stucky "one of our favorite writers," saying "poetry is another genre of music" to the record label and book company. Those sentiments are wrapped up nicely in Third Man Books' slogan: "Where your turntable’s not dead, and your page still turns."
The Truth Is We Are Perfect will hit the streets on April 14 for a mere $14.95. Stay tuned for more details on how to purchase the book, but if you're in Nashville, you'll no doubt be able to pick it up at Third Man's storefront at 623 7th Ave South.
As you wait to pick up your copy of Stucky's debut with Third Man Books, enjoy his reading of the poem "The Art of Loss Is a Lost Art" -- recorded straight to 7" vinyl at Third Man Records' public record booth -- below:
