Soundgarden helped kick off the 2014 NFL season on Thursday night with a pre-game concert in front of Centurylink Field in their hometown of Seattle. The band performed a short set before the game, which saw the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks defeat the Green Bay Packers 36-16.

During the performance, frontman Chris Cornell tipped his hat to the Seahawks’ boisterous fans known affectionately as the ‘12th Man,’ saying, ‘We’re kinda loud and always been loud. I’m lucky to have hearing and it’s amazing how much louder you guys with nothing are than this, it’s incredible.” He then introduced a song about a “Seattle fixture” named ‘Spoonman.’

The band also performed ‘Outshined,’ ‘Rusty Cage,’ ‘My Wave,’ and “Been Away Too Long,’ which was broadcast live as part of NBC’s elaborate pre-game coverage. You can the see fan shot video above.

Soundgarden were recently announced as headliners for Australia’s 2015 Soundwave Festival along with Slipknot, Faith No More, Slash and more.
