A man and a young boy are dead following a two-car crash north of Alpine Saturday afternoon.

Etna resident Jay Lish, 27, was a passenger in a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo driven by 26-year-old Elizabeth Gay of Afton. They were headed north on U.S. Highway 89 as 34-year-old Jennifer Eck of Rustburg, Va. and two children -- a 12-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy -- were headed south.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says in a news release that the Isuzu went into a slide and crossed into the southbound lane, where Jennifer Eck was unable to avoid the car and struck it in a "t-bone" style crash.

The Pontiac managed to stop on the highway. The Isuzu went off the roadway to the west, where it tripped and rolled.

Seven-year-old Cole Eck was wearing his seatbelt and survived the crash itself. He was taken by helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he later died.

Lish, who was also wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene.

Gay, Jennifer Eck and the 12-year-old girl were all taken to St. John's Medical Center in Jackson where they were hospitalized.

The Patrol continues to investigate factors that may have contributed to the crash. No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon.

The crash caused the 62nd and 63rd highway deaths in Wyoming in 2016. During the same time period in 2015, 92 people were killed on highways across the state.
