Overall Crime Down, Underage Drinking Up at Cheyenne Frontier Days
Officer Kevin Malatesta says the department responded to 2,682 calls for service during the 10-day event, including seven DUI arrests, eight narcotics cases and 122 disturbance calls.
"Overall, we were a little bit down this year from our numbers from last year, which is actually a good thing," said Malatesta. "It means that we're responding to fewer incidents and dealing with less crime."
At Frontier Park, 95 tickets were issued for underage drinking, up from 79 in 2016.
"We definitely had a stronger presence up there with our underage drinking group," said Malatesta. "I don't know if that impacted the overall numbers or not, obviously our numbers for underage drinking were higher, but that may have been a factor."
"I think more than that though is probably just the weather itself," he added. "We had a couple of cooler days mixed in with this Frontier Days and some rain and stuff in the evenings and that cooler weather tends to keep people inside."
