My wife orders the craziest stuff from Japan. I had to have her repeat what she said when she announced to me what came in the mail. To my disfortune, it turns out I heard her correctly. She ordered edible placenta jelly that happens to be mango flavored.

That's right. Placenta.

To answer your first question of 'whose placenta is it?', it appears to be from a pig.

I'm not sure if it's a trend or what it is, but there are a lot of jelly-type edibles in Japan both for children and adults. Another popular item are those portable bags that we have for applesauce. They're a single time use where you just squeeze the bag into your mouth. There are almost as many jelly drinks like that in Japan as we have sodas.

Curiosity got the best of me on this mango flavored placenta jelly. I had to document it.

Verdict: Better than I thought.

I still can't get over the whole 'placenta' idea, but it's basically just mango-flavored jelly that happens to be from placenta or placenta essence I'm not sure. Some things are better left unknown.
