CY Middle School, Pathways Innovation Center and Roosevelt High School went into a precautionary lockout Thursday morning.

"We had an individual who became involved in essentially what is a road rage incident on CY Avenue," Sgt. Scott Jones of the Casper Police Department explained. Nobody was injured in connection with the incident.

One of the people involved in that incident was a student, Jones says, and that student brandished an Airsoft gun.

"The student has been spoken to, and we've recovered what has been determined to be a very real-looking Airsoft gun," Jones continued. "Nothing was pointed at anybody. It was just shown, or displayed, if you will."

Due to the proximity of the incident to the three nearby schools, those facilities were placed on lockout from roughly 8-8:30 a.m., Jones said. Police continue to investigate, and have not yet determined whether anyone involved in the incident will face charges.

"If we determine there's an applicable charge, it will probably just be a citation written," Jones told K2 Radio News, adding that no arrests have been made as of 10:30 a.m.

"It was just one of those road rage things that developed into something a lot more serious, I think, than the individual involved counted on," Jones continued.

District officials emphasize that students and staff are safe, and normal school operations have resumed. Jones praised district teachers and staff for executing the lockout quickly and effectively.
