Best Coast have recently covered the Fleetwood Mac classic ‘Storms.’ The track made its debut on BBC Radio 6′s Radcliffe and Maconie Show, which you can listen to below.

Best Coast’s interpretation of ‘Storms’ stays pretty faithful to the original, adding their signature dream pop sound to the mix with just an acoustic guitar. Vocalist Bethany Cosentino tries to replicate the pain that Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks desperately tries to hide in her vocals, but comes up a bit short. However, it’s still a pretty good cover by the California duo.

Best Coast will release their second studio album ‘The Only Place’ on May 15. Their cover of ‘Storms’ will be included as a 7″ vinyl single only available at independent record stores. Cosentino told the Los Angeles Times that she’s been inspired by Fleetwood Mac and Metallica while recording the album. “There is something to be learned from their examples of high anxiety and survival, and of taking creative leaps of faith,” she said.

‘The Only Place’ will rely less on reverb and distortion than their 2010 debut ‘Crazy for You,’ and focus more on their raw talent. The pair want to show the world how they have progressed as a band.

“We didn’t want to make a record that was like, ‘Whoa, what happened to Best Coast? This isn’t Best Coast.’ We wanted to do something a little bit more mature and grown-up,” Cosentino explains. “What’s the point of making it sound like you recorded it in your bedroom if you can make it sound like it was recorded at Capitol Records’ Studio B?”

Best Coast will hit the road in May for an extensive two-month tour. The trek kicks off May 18 in Los Angeles, Calif., and runs all the way through July 27 in Chicago, Ill.
