Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon to Release Memoir, ‘Girl In a Band,’ in February

Just being in one of the most influential alternative bands of the past 30 years would probably come with a few good stories on its own, but being a female leader in a testosterone-laden scene has provided Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon with enough material to fill a book.

Gordon has announced she'll release her memoir, 'Girl In a Band,' on February 24 by Harper Collins imprint Dey Street Books. According to a press release, the book will follow Gordon’s life from childhood to present day, including the decades spent in Sonic Youth and the New York City post-punk scene of the ’80s, along with her most recent project, Body/Head.

The press release says the focus of the book is an examination of what partnership means and "what happens when it dissolves,” referring to Gordon's divorce from Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and the breakup of the band.

It's also said to provide an “atmospheric look at the New York of the ’80s and ’90s that gave rise to Sonic Youth, as well as the alternative revolution in popular music that Sonic Youth helped usher in, paving the way for Nirvana, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, and many other acts.”
