Thorofare Ranger Station in Yellowstone National Park is the most isolated place in America.

The nearest paved road, U.S. Highway 14-20, is 30 miles away. It's so remote, in fact, Google Maps does not offer driving directions to the station.

If, however, you're willing to hike down the Continental Divide Trail, you could make the 100-mile trek to the nearest Starbucks in about 30 hours.

Having a Big Mac attack? The nearest McDonald's is 102 miles away in Jackson.

How about the nearest Walmart? You'll find it 125 miles west in Rexburg, Idaho.

So just how remote is the most desolate destination in the lower 48? It's 101 miles to the nearest ATM, which, ironically, is just down the street from the closest Starbucks.
