It's with much sadness that we report on the passing of Housecore Horror Film Festival co-founder and true crime author Corey Mitchell has passed away. Mitchell reportedly suffered a heart attack earlier today (Oct. 27), the day after Housecore Horror concluded its second annual festival on Oct. 26.

Along with Pantera / Down legend Philip Anselmo, Mitchell helped create one of the most unique festivals in history. Housecore Horror brought a love of metal music and horror together, establishing a multi-day event filled with brutal music, brilliant films and exclusive meet-and-greets.

Mitchell was also a bestselling author, penning seven true crime books including 'Hollywood Death Scenes,' 'Dead and Buried,' 'Murdered Innocents' and others. Mitchell was also working with Anselmo on the frontman's long-awaited autobiography. According to Mitchell's Amazon profile, he was also working on his eighth true crime novel, 'Teach Me to Kill,' about the murder of Diane Tilly.

The Housecore Horror Film Festival Facebook page memorialized Mitchell earlier today:

Metal Sucks, for which Mitchell was a regular contributor, also celebrated the man's memory, along with reporting that Mitchell's cause of death was a heart attack suffered at Emo's, the central hub of the Housecore Horror Film Festival.

We'd like to send out deepest sympathies to Mitchell's family and friends, and thank Corey for all of his contributions to the worlds of music and literature.
