May 20th - 23rd, kids from all over the world will converge on Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Destination Imagination Global Finals. This year, Casper kids from CY Middle School will be representing our city and state, and they need your help.

The finals will bring over 8,000 kids together to compete in 7 different categories. According to their website:

Destination Imagination (DI) is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization whose purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, we offer seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning and Early Learning. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables students to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation. Academic tournaments take place around the world where teams have the opportunity to present their solutions to trained appraisers. Students have fun and gain confidence in their ability to solve any challenge. In working to solve our Challenges, teams learn 21st century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage), step outside of their comfort zones to pursue ideas and make presentations, and build on their unique strengths.

HOW YOU CAN HELP CASPER KIDS -

While winning your way into the the finals is amazing, each person must pay their own way, which comes to $1405 per kid. With 16 CY students altogether, the total cost for the local team will top out at $22,480. Currently, the kids are going door to door selling butter braids and Papa Murphy's pizza cards, but with it being so last minute, they may not raise their total.

If you would like to make a donation - or find out how you can help these kids achieve their goal - contact Destination Imagination team leader Desiree Riley at 307-797-9144. Fundraising ends on May 18th, as they leave on May 19th.
