Desiree Andrews is an eighth-grader from Kenosha, Wis., with Down syndrome.

She hasn't let that stop her from joining Lincoln Middle School's cheerleading squad.

She was cheering at a Lincoln boys' basketball game recently, when some students in the stands started making fun of her.

Luckily, three players from Lincoln's team -- Miles Rodriguez, Scooter Terrien and Chase Vazquez -- saw what was happening. So, they stopped playing, walked off the court, confronted the bullies and told them to stop, Milwaukee's WTMJ-TV reported.

Desiree describes what they did as "sweet, kind, awesome and amazing."

And since the players' intervention, they have all become friends.

Now Lincoln Middle officials are renaming the school's gymnasium D's House, a moniker taken from Desiree's nickname of "D."
