The Natrona County Commission is expected to discuss possible fire restrictions at its meeting next week. In a draft resolution, the Commission cites the increasing drought and high fire danger for the proposed restrictions. Officials discussed the proposal with representatives from the Natrona County Fire District and Casper Mountain Fire District.

The proposed fire restrictions would require trash burning be limited to containers with spark arrestors. In addition campires would be limited to fire rings and restrictions would also be placed on discarding smoking materials. Under the draft proposal, smoking would be only allowed in vehicles, buildings or areas devoid of flammable materials.

The proposal would also bar the use of fireworks, except where a permit is issued, and prohibit slash pile burning on Casper Mountain. As the memo is only a draft, any or all of the proposals could be amended before any action by the members of the Natrona County Commission.

Similar fire restrictions were put into effect last year. Earlier this week, the BLM issued partial fire restrictions on public lands for several counties, including Natrona.

The Commission will act on the proposal at its meeting next Tuesday.
