An early morning fire Friday destroyed a garage on an alley between South Jackson and South McKinley streets a half block south of East Second Street.

The call came in at 3:29 a.m., Fire Inspector David Lundahl said.

By the time crews arrived, the fire was through the roof, Lundahl said.

The fire scorched three utility poles and destroyed electrical equipment, which shut down power to a several-block radius, he said.

The resident has been in the process of moving, so the shed was mostly empty, Lundahl said. However, there were two snow machines inside as well as some personal items, he added.

No cause has been determined yet, said Fire Inspector Dave Harley.
