Back in 2007 while on a cross-country tour of Canada with the White Stripes,  Jack White hatched a plan that he had hoped would land the duo a Guinness World Record. During the Stripes’ stop in St. John’s, Newfoundland, they played a one-note concert and tried to have it declared the the shortest concert in the world.

But for some reason, despite performing a show that Jack says “last[ed] a millisecond” (watch footage of the gig below), Jack claims that Guinness officials failed to recognize the record — and he still seems bitter about the whole experience.

“The thing is … the Guinness book is a very elitist organization. There’s nothing scientific about what they do,” he tells Interview. “They just have an office full of people who decide what a record is and what isn’t … Most of the records in there — who has the biggest collection of salt-and-pepper shakers or whatever  – are just whatever they want them to be.”

“So with something like the shortest concert of all time, they didn’t think whatever we did was interesting enough to make it a record,” he continues. ”I don’t know why they get to decide that, but, you know, they own the book.”

But here’s where things get interesting. Following this recent report of White being upset by the apparent snub, Guinness has responded by stating that the White Stripes record was in fact reported in their 2009 edition of the book. That world record led to numerous other bands attempting to beat it, and ultimately the end of all “shortest” categories as world records.

“The nature of competing to make something the ‘shortest’ by its very nature trivializes the activity being carried out, and Guinness World Records has been forced to reject many claims of this kind,” Guinness tells NME. “As such, we have been forced to cease listing records for the shortest song, shortest poem and indeed the shortest concert.”

The organization then went on to compliment White, and invited him to try for a different record, stating that ”many of us at Guinness World Records are enormous admirers of Mr. White’s oeuvre, and we would be extremely pleased if he were to attempt any of the 40,000 records that are currently active on our database.”

Black Sabbath are taking the high road after Bill Ward‘s recent lengthy statement about his non-participation in their reunion.

The group issued a statement late Thursday that read, “We have decided not to make any detailed comment on Bill’s latest statement. There are two sides to every story. We have been working hard at rehearsals making excellent progress after Tony’s treatments and we have engaged a substitute drummer for the forthcoming shows. See you at Download.”

In his statement earlier this week, Ward revealed that he and the other members of Black Sabbath had failed to come to terms on a contract for the reunion. The drummer felt that it was important that he stand up for himself where the band was concerned, but felt horrible that he was letting the fans down as a result. “I know in my heart, I couldn’t have done these concerts by agreeing to the terms suggested,” explained Ward.

He also added that he had been offered a chance to “minimally” play, while sharing the drumkit with another drummer during Black Sabbath sets, but was not willing to sit back and watch another musician play while he was only allowed on three songs.

Ward revealed that he learned about the band’s summer plans through an advertisement for the shows, and realized then that a signable contract was not going to be presented. He concluded, “I didn’t want to make this decision, but I have to be transparent and honest.” As for future work with the band, he says he still has an open mind and a willingness to negotiate a “signable” contract.

The death of Beastie Boys emcee Adam Yauch hit a lot of people hard, but there were some fans who immediately rallied to make sure that the man also known as MCA would get his day in his hometown of New York.

On May 11, both a Twitter and Facebook page went live with plans for an “MCA Day,” and organizer Michael Kearney is happy to announce that it will become a reality at New York’s Union Square this Saturday (May 19). Kearney posted a photo via Facebook of a subway train and stated, “Picture an NYC Subway car full of all types and walks of life … singing Beastie Boys songs in unison. That’s my vision for MCA DAY NYC. I’m going to build that. Thanks for the support. That train’s a coming.”

MCA Day will kick off at 11:00AM ET in New York’s Union Square this Saturday, and everyone attending is encouraged to bring songs, memories, and anything else they feel will pay tribute to Yauch’s life.

Meanwhile, New York State Senator Daniel Squadron also made sure that Yauch was recognized on the legislative floor. He drafted a resolution that was heard and adopted by his fellow politicians. Resolution J4637-2011 recognizes Yauch’s many contributions to the state of New York, and while it stops short of declaring an official MCA Day in New York, it did allow the politicians a chance to take a break from their proceedings and honor his memory with the reading of the resolution.

In the resolution, it reads, “The music and message of the Beastie Boys evolved over the years, but they can’t, they don’t, they won’t stop changing the face of hip-hop, of music, and of our culture; and whereas, the Beastie Boys exemplified New York through a period in which grassroots creativity and a community of iconoclastic artists helped redefine and rejuvenate a city on the ropes, with iconic imagery from Brooklyn to Ludlow Street.”

The resolution also addresses Yauch’s work outside the band with the charitable organization Milarepa, as the founder of the film distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, and his life as a family man and activist. The full resolution was transmitted to Yauch’s family. The full text may be read via the New York Senate’s Open Access database.

When fire engulfed 12-year-old Justin Jackon’s Milton, FL, home on Sunday at 2AM, his mother was at work and his father was out of state. So if anyone was going to save his four younger siblings, it was going to have to be him.

Knowing what he had to do, Allen made three trips back into the burning home. The most harrowing was when he pulled out his three-year-old sister, who remained asleep during the ordeal.

“I had to pick her up and she was real stiff. I was just real scared at that point,” said Justin, who also had to kick a door in to gain clear access to her room.

Not only did he save his younger brothers and sister, but Justin had the presence of mind to let the four family dogs out. (Although, sadly, two still perished in the flames.)

The house ended up burning to the ground, but Justin downplayed talk that he was a hero. “Not really,” he said when asked if he thought what he did was heroic. “I was just helping my family and stuff.”

Justin’s aunt, Cri Jackson, disagrees with his modest assessment.

“He ran back in not once, not twice, but three times to save his siblings,” she said. “He’s our little hero.”

That said, we should probably cut this kid some slack for guessing the answer to this puzzle was “Magic Hand” since that’s probably how he honestly feels about his overworked northern appendage.

Pat Sajak’s reaction to this young fellow not producing the proper response is priceless (WTF is a fand?) and we should give the kid a round of “magic hands” for not making a break for it once he realized a 2^nd grader could have solved that puzzle.

We’re still going to say this isn’t the worst game show fail we’ve ever seen. THIS IS the worst we’ve ever seen.

The dawn of Max Payne 3 will no doubt put fans of the series in a nostalgic mood for his last outing, a 2003 game that’s now easiest to find and play in downloadable form. But those who buy the game and try to play it on their Xbox 360 hard drive are out of luck, because the file only downloads to the 99 percent mark before petering out.

Kotaku says Microsoft seems to know about the problem and is handing out refunds for those who buy the game and can’t play it. That’s a bit out of character for the company and its customer service reps, who seem to be robots programmed to say “no” to just about all digital purchase refund requests.

If you feel the need to rehash Max’s old adventures any time soon, you’re best off either downloading them on the PS3 or hunting down an old original Xbox copy of the game, which plays on the Xbox 360.

We’d expect Rockstar Games and Microsoft will fix the Max Payne 2 download problem soon. Maybe they’ll even get generous and offer the game at a discount.

When it comes to self-evaluation, most people have unrealistic standards for themselves. Some people don’t like a certain body feature, or wish they could be in better shape, or don’t like they way they react to different circumstances. I personally have a cursing problem (which, believe it or not, is pretty normal for radio DJ’s…)

Reading some of these responses, I’ve come to the conclusion that people judge themselves based on their perceptions of other people. “I want a butt like hers”, or “I want to be cool as him” are examples of how we, for the most part, think. Meanwhile, the person that you’re trying to emulate is having the exact same thoughts. One of those “grass is greener on the other side” sort of things, I think…

It wasn’t that long ago that yoga was only thought to be practiced by Indian mystics. (Or perhaps little green Jedis.) But now it seems like everybody knows how to do the downward dog.

In fact, these days, even 93-year-olds are hitting the yoga mat.

Meet Tao Porchon-Lynn, the nonagenarian whom the Guinness World Records just reconized as the world’s oldest yoga teacher.

Porchon-Lynn was born in French colonial India, and has actually been practicing the ancient art since she was eight. But it wasn’t until she was 73 that she noticed yoga was getting more and more popular and decided to dedicate her career to it by founding the Westchester Institute of Yoga in New York

In between, she’s been a cabaret dancer, an actress and a model. She even once won a contest for “Best Legs in Europe.”

On her website, Tao claims she’s “a living advertisement for how to tap into our human potential. She is unique in her ability to overcome the effects of aging to control her body and mind in harmony with yoga’s principles.”

We certainly can’t argue with that.

We all know bands and rockstars know how to do some serious partying but sometimes they pay the price for their celebratory antics. Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose apparently learned that this weekend after suffering a significant leg injury.

According to the Russian website Komsomolskaya Pravda, Rose hurt his leg when he fell off of a table while dancing at Premier Lounge in Moscow. Rose and his band were celebrating the start of their 2012 European tour with two shows in Russia’s capital.

The Guns N’ Roses singer tweeted a picture of the severe bruise on his entire leg with a caption saying “Can you say HemaToma?!” Check out the picture to the left.

Rose is said to make a full recovery and Guns N’ Roses are set to play a number of shows in Europe; for the full list of countries and dates, go here.

The Casper Police Department is investigating two deaths at a home in the 400 block of West 12^th Street.  Few details are available, but investigators have said that two bodies were found in the home Thursday morning.   We will have more information as soon as it is released by the Casper Police Department.

Casper Police are conducting an investigation on 12^th Street, and Natrona County School District Officials want to ensure parents that there is no danger to students.  The large police presence prompted some concerns, but the district notified parents by telephone that students were safe, and that no schools were on lockdown.

The investigation is near a number of Natrona County Schools.  It’s not yet known what prompted the police investigation, but details are expected later today.

Is Will Ferrell’s ‘Anchorman’ sequel going to be a ‘Chorus Line’-style musical? Probably not. That’s too much to ask. But that’s the vibe I’m getting off of this early teaser poster for ‘Anchorman 2,’ which may (or may not) be subtitled ‘The Legend Continues.’

The poster was tagged by The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide (and shared via ComingSoon). It arrives just ahead of an alleged ‘Anchorman’ sequel teaser trailer that Paramount plans to attach to prints of Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘The Dictator’ starting this week.

We haven’t seen the teaser yet, but it reportedly involves all four cast members riffing about their return. The last thing McKay told the media about the sequel, they were still hammering out the script. It’s unlikely they’ve filmed anything for the sequel besides this teaser. We’ll post it as soon as it makes it’s way online.

Until then, we have this poster. That’s Ron in the middle, with his signature red suit. Who is that on the left? They appear to have two different pant legs. That has to be Steve Carell’s dim-witted Brick, right?

We have a long time until the ‘Anchorman’ sequel reaches theaters in 2013. But between the Conan O’Brien appearance, the teaser trailer and now this poster, it’s obvious Paramount’s going to promote the daylights out of this sequel, turning it into a massive hit for the studio. Well, that’s if the movie’s any good. It has to be, though. Right?
