On November 25, 2015, the Wyoming Highway Patrol was involved in a vehicle pursuit on southbound Interstate 25 from Casper. The pursuit ended at approximately 11:40 a.m.

During the pursuit the driver of the suspect vehicle, a red Chevrolet Suburban, crossed the grass median near mile marker 165 and began driving south in the northbound lanes. The reckless actions of this vehicle put the lives of innocent people traveling northbound on I-25 in imminent danger.

Thirty year old, Russell Anderson has been charged with two counts felony of aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant woman, one felony count of promoting prostitution, one misdemeanor count of reckless endangering, one misdemeanor count of fleeing or attempting to elude police officers and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.

Special Agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation say on Wednesday, November 25th, a Mills Police Officer attempted to pull over Anderson for a traffic violation. Anderson refused to stop and the chase ensued on I-25 southbound. The Wyoming Highway Patrol eventually got involved.

Once Anderson was between the two exits to Glenrock, he then crossed over the median and started driving southbound in the northbound lanes. Due to the serious risk of serious bodily injury to oncoming traffic, one trooper fired several shots at Anderson in an attempt to end the pursuit, however one shot hit Anderson's passenger, 33 year old Michelle Essig, in the leg.

The chase ended a short time later, when the Patrol was able to stop Anderson's vehicle. One Trooper and his K9 partner were injured as a result.

Law Enforcement is now trying to locate those that were driving, or riding in any vehicles that may have encountered this vehicle.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, in conjunction with the Wyoming Highway Patrol, would like to encourage any witnesses or potential victims that were driving north on Interstate 25 during this pursuit to contact the Division of Criminal Investigation at 307-261-2194 during business hours or 307-777-7545 (after hours).
