Watch Coldplay Play Two New Songs on ‘SNL’
The Brits came to New York and took over 'Saturday Night Live' last night, with 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' star Andrew Garfield hosting and musical guests Coldplay.
Garfield brought the jokes (well, relatively speaking), and Coldplay came with two new songs from their upcoming album 'Ghost Stories,' which comes out on May 19. First, Chris Martin and the group performed 'Magic,' a pretty straightforward showing that featured the frontman hauling out his falsetto -- something he hasn't done at length in a long time.
For their second song, Coldplay went for their latest single, 'A Sky Full of Stars.' The EDM track -- which features Swedish DJ Avicii on the studio version -- gave fans an extended look at some of Martin's dance moves. It needed a subwoofer or two to amplify the sound, and it would have been nice if the audience could have joined in on Martin's solo dance party.
The last time Coldplay played 'SNL,' in 2011, Grafield was also there. He showed up when his 'Spider-Man' costar and real-life girlfriend Emma Stone hosted. She repaid him by showing up during his debut hosting gig last night.
And this isn't the only time NBC is helping Coldplay push their new album. The day before the album comes out, the network will air a special, 'Coldplay: Ghost Stories,' featuring live performances by the band.
