Combat-wounded soldiers will have a special place to park in Casper, as the city plans to install several Purple Heart Designee parking signs at various City facilities around town.

The signs, which honor Purple Heart recipients, were awarded to the City of Casper when the Purple Heart Truck Run stopped in Casper in July. That run is an 8,500 mile, six-week journey of a new mobility-equipped truck co-sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Wounded Warrior Project with a theme of “Mobility is Freedom". It aims to raise awareness of its mission and the sacrifices of veterans.

At the end of this year’s Purple Heart Truck Run, the truck will be presented to retired Marine Corps Sgt. Marshall Kennedy who lost both legs and suffered severe damage to his left arm in an IED attack in Afghanistan in 2011.

The Purple Heart Designee parking signs will be placed at City Hall, at the Casper Recreation Center, and at the Events Center.
