Hundreds of expectant moms and new parents turned out in Casper over the weekend for the annual Community Baby Shower, an event that bring together families with community health partners who shared tools and resources to help parents raise healthy children.

Topics included taking care of babies and toddlers, prenatal and postpartum care, and child safety. Expecting moms also had a chance to learn about a free app from Wyoming Medicaid, WYhealth Due Date Plus, that helps women track their pregnancies. There were also free infant care items from vendors, and a raffle with prizes such as car seats and strollers.

About 350 people showed up to the annual Community Baby Shower, which is part of the Wyoming Department of Health’s ongoing effort to reduce infant mortality and improve birth outcomes.  “WYhealth is committed to supporting health and wellness in our local communities around the state,” said James Bush, MD, Medical Director for Wyoming Medicaid. “Today’s Baby Shower supports our efforts by helping families give kids the care they need early on so they have a better opportunity to live healthier, happier lives.”

The free event hosted by the Mercer Family Resource Center and Natrona County Prevention Coalition, along with WYhealth by Optum.  “The Natrona County baby shower planning committee is focused on helping parents access the tools and resources they need to raise healthy kids,” said Lisa Brown, Parenting Specialist at Mercer Family Resource Center.
