================================================

This morning, a number of folks were startled to hear the city's emergency warning sirens going off, with no verbal explanation.

It turns out, it was a mistake. Here is the official explanation from the Casper Fire-EMS.

This morning, you may have heard your neighborhood's civil defense warning sirens activated. This was the result of a normally silent weekly test that is performed by our partners with the Natrona County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management and the Public Safety Communications Center. Instead of the normally silent operational test, the button to actually activate the sirens was activated. There was, and currently is NO public safety concern - with exception to our slick roads caused by this snow!

We thank everyone for keeping a vigilant ear to your neighborhood's sirens. These are a valuable tool utilized to quickly warn the population in the event of a public safety emergency. Follow up a warning by staying tuned to local radio, television, and Public Safety social media accounts.
