Wednesday morning, local law enforcement agencies gathered for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. People were bicycling, running, and walking along with the athletes carrying the Special Olympic Torch through Casper.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wyoming is part of the worldwide movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.

Officers and athletes – called the Guardians of the Flame – run the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” to the Opening Ceremonies of Special Olympics competitions. The Torch Run caps a variety of year-round fundraising events such as Jackalope Jumps, Tip A Cop, LETR Merchandise Sales, Fire Truck Pulls, Strikes for SO, Truck Convoy, corporate donations, and other special events. All proceeds directly benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Wyoming. And, officers continually Interact with Special Olympics athletes and are the primary medal presenters at the area and state competitions.

Representing your county is an honor.  Doing so on an international stage, even more so. For James Boswell of Hulett and Gary Endecott of Jackson - this was their dream come true as they demonstrate their talent and determination as members of Special Olympics USA at the World Winter Games.

Held March 14 – 25, 2017 in Austria, the World Winter Games united athletes from 110 nations in what was billed as the world's largest sports and humanitarian event in 2017!  While an estimated 3,000 athletes competed in nine disciplines throughout the games, James and Gary - both alpine skiers - represented their fellow Wyomingites on the slopes.

Every two years, the Special Olympics World Games unify the global community in a celebration of the human spirit - transcending geography, nationality, gender, age, culture and religion to champion the virtues of inclusion and respect for those with intellectual disabilities. Trevor and Cedar will display this proud spirit by demonstrating the transformative power of sports.
