A well-known Casper music educator and a local Artist Guild are among the recipients of the Wyoming Arts Council’s 2017 Governor’s Arts Awards.

Governor Matt Mead recently announced the recipients. They are:

  • ART 321/Casper Artists Guild, a nonprofit organization offering art exhibitions and workshops in a renovated warehouse in downtown Casper
  • Patrick Patton, professor of music/choral instructor/conductor from Casper
  • Susan Moldenhauer, individual artist/community arts builder/retired director of the UW Art Museum from Laramie
  • Leslie O’Hashi, director of the Bodylines Dance Theatre from Cheyenne.

Recipients will be honored at a dinner and awards ceremony on Feb. 9 in Cheyenne.

The Governor’s Arts Awards were established in 1982, and the winners are selected based on their "substantial contributions made in Wyoming that exemplify a long-term commitment to the arts, with special consideration given to nominees whose arts service is statewide," according to the Wyoming Arts Council.

Many nominations are submitted for the Awards each year, and the selection process is competitive. Nominations are submitted to the Wyoming Arts Council in October and reviewed by the Wyoming Arts Council Board in November. The board then sends their recommendations to the Governor for the final decision.
