Bring Me the Horizon Talk Musical Evolution, ‘Avalanche’ Single + More

Bring Me the Horizon have seen their sound evolve over the years, and during a recent stop at Rock on the Range, frontman Oli Sykes and keyboardist Jordan Fish spoke with Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez about where the band is at musically on their That's the Spirit album, what it meant to them to take the reins on producing the disc and they also discuss the newly released single "Avalanche."

For That's the Spirit, the band's sound evolved with some more pop influences factored in. Sykes explains, "I guess it's just an evolution of what we've been doing for the last decade and I keep saying it’s the first album with Jordan where he's been able to have a bit more creative freedom and feel like more a part of the band." The group started making the transition a bit with the Sempiternal album, and the vocalist says that and the pre-album release of the single "Drown" gave them the confidence to move forward.

Sykes and Fish also received producing credits on the album, with confidence also playing a big role there, as well. Fish states that the band had the idea that if self-producing wasn't working, they could bring someone in, but he adds, "As the process went on, it became obvious we didn't need someone else." Sykes, meanwhile, concludes, "If you've got a vision, I think it's best to do it yourself."

The guys also discuss the current single "Avalanche," a track Fish states is his favorite song, Sykes describes it as their shot at doing a U2-like stadium anthem even though that isn't necessarily their forte.
